The Home Depot Foundation strengthens partnership with $700,000 grant to Atlanta Habitat

New funds bring total granted to Atlanta Habitat by The Home Depot Foundation to nearly $4 million since 2011

ATLANTA—With its largest grant award to date to Atlanta Habitat for Humanity, The Home Depot Foundation expands its partnership with Atlanta Habitat to empower Atlanta families through education and homeownership.

The Home Depot Foundation is awarding $700,000 to fund education programs to prepare individuals for homeownership, academic and career advancement, help legacy homeowners, and support construction of Atlanta Habitat homes.

“The Home Depot Foundation is an extraordinary Atlanta Habitat partner. Homeownership is the Foundation for building wealth in a family,” says Lisa Y. Gordon, Atlanta Habitat President and CEO. “This generous grant invests in the future of families and the 100 neighborhoods we serve in Atlanta and South Fulton County. From building houses, repairing homes for our military veterans to supporting our families in so many other ways, we are grateful to have Home Depot’s unwavering partnership that spans 30 years.”

Since 2011, the Foundation has awarded nearly $4 million in grants to Atlanta Habitat, thus impacting the lives of 1,000 families. In addition, The Home Depot Foundation sponsored the construction and rehab of 78 affordable homes and 140 critical home repair and exterior painting projects.

In the coming months, this grant with help at least two families build their first home and continue funding for Atlanta Habitat’s neighborhood revitalization services—Repair with Kindness and Brush with Kindness. It will also support Atlanta Habitat’s My Money. My Future. financial coaching services that prepare individuals to buy a home and Vision. Goals. Action!—the organization’s scholarship and grant awards program for homeowners.

Over the past five years, Atlanta Habitat has grown from serving 50 families in 2016 to more than 150 every year and a record-breaking 208 in 2019. With the recent completion of a highly successful capital campaign raising more than $15.5 million and phenomenal growth, Atlanta Habitat is on track to serve nearly 1,200 new families now through 2025.
