Laying Down the Law to Build, Thrive, Grow: Buildable Hours

August 8, 2017

Atlanta area legal and professional services employees are laying down the law, pulling off the power suits and picking up hammers, saws and power tools for the annual “Buildable Hours” home build, ensuring that more families have access to affordable, attractive, energy-efficient homes. “I like watching an Atlanta Habitat home being built and knowing that I had a part in it,” says volunteer skilled supervisor, Mike Pursley. “I get a kick out of it!”.

Atlanta Habitat launched the Buildable Hours theme in 2004 following its popularity with other Habitat for Humanity International affiliates. It brings together sponsors and volunteers from the legal and professional fields to build a new home with a qualified homebuyer. This year’s partners and volunteers from Bennett Thrasher, Booz Allen Hamilton, CAA, Conduent, Distinctive Atlanta Homes, Eversheds Sutherland, Merchant e-Solutions, Montag & Caldwell, Smith, Gambrell & Russell LLP, Warren Averett LLC, Turner, XL Catlin were excited about the opportunity for colleagues and associates to work with each other and community volunteers on Atlanta Habitat service projects.

The partnership with participating firms supports construction costs for site development, materials and labor and to date, has supported the construction of 18 homes for working Atlanta families.

“I feel excited and impatience. I can’t wait until my home is finished so that I can move in!”, says Atlanta Habitat homeowner, Nekesha Whitaker, who channeled every bit of that energy into working with volunteers to construct her new home.

The 2017 Buildable Hours home, located in northwest Atlanta will be completed in August 2017.
