Georgia-Pacific is a Good Neighbor

Since 1996, Atlanta Habitat and Georgia-Pacific have shared a similar outlook on what it means to be a good neighbor

“I think we share one vision,” began Christian Fischer, President, and CEO of Georgia-Pacific. “That vision is basically to help people improve their lives and help them, get to the best they can be and be a good neighbor.”

Beyond a shared vision, Habitat and Georgia-Pacific’s relationships run a bit deeper.

“We’ve had a number of our employees and even some of our leadership grow up in a Habitat home and we’ve also had members of Georgia-Pacific who actually come to work for Habitat. We are going full circle with the connection that we’ve had between Habitat and Georgia-Pacific,” said Curly Dossman, Vice President of Community Relations at Georgia Pacific.

In the last 27 years, Georgia-Pacific has helped to build 34 homes alongside our neighbors. Throughout those projects, many of GP’s employees and executive team have had the chance to volunteer and support their neighbors.

“We want to make sure that there’s an opportunity for us to support the communities where employees live and work, and also to be able to help address problems and issues that the community is facing,” Dossman said.

Many of the volunteers left with a new skill and a resolve to continue helping their neighbors. Helping someone, working alongside them, to create a solution is something Georgia-Pacific is very proud to be a part of.

“We’re really proud of our employees because they have a commitment, just like Georgia-Pacific, to giving back to their communities and to be able to have our employees and provide them with an opportunity where they really feel connected to the community and working means a lot,” Dossman said.
