Atlanta Habitat Home Built in Honor of Longtime Supporter, Ernest ‘Early’ Muntzing
August 22, 2019
When Ernest “Early” Muntzing, a longtime Atlanta Habitat volunteer and supporter, passed away unexpectedly last December, his friends and family came together and raised more than $85,000 to build a house in his honor. As a result, two dreams came to fruition: The Early Muntzing Memorial Build and for homebuyer Darren, a safe and affordable place to call home.
“Early learned about Habitat 16 years ago from Clark Howard on the radio,” said his wife Susanne Muntzing. “He loved the way Habitat works, loved the program. Atlanta Habitat is wonderful, and this has been a wonderful experience.”
His high level of care for people and the community led Early, who owned a real estate development firm, to sponsor 14 house-builds for Grady High School students to volunteer on a build. Now the 15th build memorializes his name and legacy.
Darren learned about Early’s impact and legacy during the eight-week build of his home. He worked alongside Early’s wife, three children (Erin, Lily and Sarah), and a host of volunteers to complete the construction. Darren also built in memory of his grandmother, who also passed away recently.
The Muntzings joined Darren at the home dedication to celebrate his next step in homeownership – and what a heartwarming celebration of life and new beginnings it was.
