Atlanta Habitat for Humanity Announces $1M Grant from The Home Depot Foundation
Gift will fund 10 new homes in two years
ATLANTA (Jan. 10, 2023) – Atlanta Habitat for Humanity announces that the organization received a $1 million grant from The Home Depot Foundation® to build 10 homes in the next two years. This gift heralds the start of 40th anniversary commemorations for Atlanta Habitat.
The Home Depot was among the first group of corporations to make significant contributions to Atlanta Habitat homeowner education programs and community repair initiatives 20 years ago. This grant is the latest in a series of major gifts from The Home Depot Foundation through the years, making it possible for Atlanta Habitat to continue its mission of transforming generations through home ownership and neighborhood revitalization.
“As Atlanta’s home prices continue to rise, The Home Depot Foundation is committed to ensuring more people have access to stable, affordable housing through our decades of work with Atlanta Habitat,” said Shannon Gerber, executive director of The Home Depot Foundation. “These 10 homes in the innovative Browns Mill Village community will provide opportunities for homeownership to more of our neighbors here in The Home Depot’s hometown. We’re proud to partner with Atlanta Habitat and honored to help kick off its 40th anniversary celebration this year.”
Atlanta Habitat built 28 new homes last year, and the organization plans to continue addressing the affordable housing gap by building a total of 40 homes in 2023 to honor 40 years of service.
THRIVE Challenge: Sponsor a New Home Build
As Atlanta Habitat begins a year of 40th anniversary recognitions, Chief Development Officer Candice Jordan invites corporations to participate in the THRIVE Challenge, a collective effort to positively impact affordable housing in the city of Atlanta.
Corporations are encouraged to sponsor the building of at least one new home, representing an investment of $100,000 (per home). With generous support from numerous companies throughout the year, Atlanta Habitat hopes to meet a goal of adding at least 10 additional home builds.
“We have a rich legacy of empowering generations to build and grow as homeowners – now we are poised to help even more families thrive by increasing the number of homes we build and by amplifying our programming in the communities we serve,” said Jordan.
When companies sponsor new home builds, they help change the lives of hard working families. Home ownership is one important way families create stability and build wealth, factors that can change the trajectory of future generations.
