Repair With Kindness
Atlanta Habitat often sees neighbors making modest improvements to their own properties, but their progress is frequently limited by the lack of financial resources or how-to knowledge. Noticing the impact on the community when homes are upgraded, Atlanta Habitat launched its Repair with Kindness program in December 2015. Since then, the program has helped more than 130 seniors, military veterans and other homeowners with critical home repairs. Atlanta Habitat plans to double the impact of RWK through this campaign.
Seniors represent 90 percent of Repair with Kindness participants.
Program Snapshot:
- Licensed contractors including electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians work with Atlanta Habitat to assess, schedule and complete the repairs.
- Target neighborhoods – Westside (Ashview Heights, English Avenue, Vine City, Dixie Hills, Grove Park) Orchard Knob/South River, and communities in the city of Fairburn. More neighborhoods will be added as we increase funding for the program and assess the impact of neighborhoods being served.
- Participants must own and reside in their homes, complete sweat-equity hours on their own project or another Atlanta Habitat project and agree to a five-year forgivable loan.
- This program seeks to retain anchor homeowners in Atlanta’s most challenged communities.
