Novelis executive joins Atlanta Habitat board of directors

October 22, 2021

Atlanta Habitat for Humanity announces the appointment of Greg Schlicht, Senior Vice President, Global Can Sales for Novelis, to its board of directors.

Schlicht joins 22 other board executives in setting long-range goals for the organization, ensuring that adequate financial resources are secured to carry out Atlanta Habitat’s work and make general policy decisions.

At Novelis, Schlicht is responsible for leading the commercial strategy for Novelis’ global Can business. Prior to being named to this position in 2021, Greg served as Vice President, Strategy & Sustainability, for six years. Greg joined Novelis in 2009 and was part of the Global Legal team, serving as Assistant General Counsel, Mergers, Divestitures & Acquisitions, until moving to the strategy team. His expertise in a number of disciplines will be beneficial in his role as a member of Atlanta Habitat’s Finance and Audit committee.

“The appointment of Greg to our board represents Novelis’ enduring commitment to Atlanta Habitat and helping families,” says Lisa Y. Gordon, President and CEO of Atlanta Habitat. “We are honored to have his expertise and our broader partnership with Novelis as Atlanta Habitat embarks upon a new three-year strategic plan to serve an additional 1,200 new families by 2025.”

“As a long-time volunteer with Atlanta Habitat, it’s an honor to join the board,” said Schlicht. “Knowing more than $75 million worth of aluminum goes to landfill each year in Georgia alone, I’m particularly proud of how Novelis and Habitat have partnered to use can recycling as a sustainable funding source for advancing safe, affordable housing here in Atlanta. In turn, our successful collaboration has inspired broader aluminum recycling campaigns across the U.S. and Canada, underscoring the impact aluminum recycling can have on our communities and environment, as well as in the pursuit of homeownership.”

Atlanta Habitat has enjoyed a 10-year partnership with Novelis inclusive of a $1.66 million collective investment in the organization’s mission. This month, in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Novelis Global Volunteer Month, Novelis employee-volunteers are helping to build the company’s 13th funded house alongside an Atlanta Habitat homebuyer.  The company also partners with Habitat for Humanity International annually to fund affordable housing worldwide.

Atlanta Habitat board members serve three-year terms and are volunteers from various backgrounds with the resources, wisdom, and passion for leading in constructive, effective, and meaningful ways. The board is responsible for setting the organization’s overall direction, including strategic goals, finances, and governance policies.
