HUD Sec’y Marcia L. Fudge Tours Browns Mill Village
October 1, 2021
U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Marcia L. Fudge recently visited Atlanta to discuss affordable housing with local officials and to highlight President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better plan. If passed by Congress the plan, which calls for investments in affordable housing construction and rehabilitation as well as community revitalization and economic development, may increase Atlanta Habitat’s ability to serve more families.
Joined by U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff and U.S.Rep. Nikema Williams, Secretary Fudge visited Atlanta Habitat’s Browns Mill Village, a new affordable homeownership community southeast of downtown Atlanta. They joined Atlanta Habitat President and CEO, Lisa Y. Gordon for a tour of 31-acre development that is under construction, including two recently completed model homes sponsored by Delta Air Lines and Atlanta Habitat’s two-story model home. Browns Mill Village is privately funded and will include 134 homeownership units in partnership with Cityscape Housing.
Secretary Fudge later joined Habitat for Humanity International CEO Jonathan Reckford for Habitat’s +You series that brings together experts from across the U.S. and around the world to discuss how housing intersects with other areas of societal concern including public health, racial equity, faith and the economy. Here is the one-on-one conversation.
