Cox Works Hand-In-Hand to Make a Homebuyer’s Dream Come True

March 21, 2019

Tonya W., who has worked as a nurse technician for more than five years, is over the moon about her biggest dream come true. After losing her twin sister to brain cancer, her oldest two children moving out and then becoming a grandmother, Tonya knew she was ready to own a home. All those changes made her yearn for something of her own. “Where I live is nice, but it’s just not mine,” she said. She and her younger children–Calandra, who is 15, and eight-year-old Trevan–are more than ready to move in, thanks to their sponsor Cox Enterprises.

Tonya works at Emory’s Health and Rehabilitation Center, a senior care facility, and says she never knew just how often she came in contact with Cox Enterprises before her build. Her morning isn’t complete without news updates from WSB-TV Channel 2, and she frequently visits The Atlanta Journal Constitution web page–both are prominent Cox Media brands. Tonya even named her youngest daughter after one of Channel 2’s weekend traffic reporters.

“This is our 29th Atlanta Habitat house, and we couldn’t be more excited to work with the organization,” said Judy Train, Cox Representative. “Our staff genuinely enjoys helping because it’s just so rewarding to know a family is better off,” she said at Tonya’s home dedication.

Gardening and DIY projects are just two of Tonya’s many interests. She’s looking forward to grooming her garden and adding to the beauty of her new neighborhood. “My sponsor volunteers were such an amazing group of people to work with,” Tonya said. “They came out no matter the weather and gave it their all.”
