Atlanta Habitat Supports Seniors Aging in Place with Home Critical Repairs and Wraparound Services
April 5, 2022
ATLANTA—With a generous grant award of $100,000 from the Merancas Foundation, Atlanta Habitat will serve 5 seniors aging in place with their Repair with Kindness (RWK) program which includes critical home repairs and wraparound services. The Merancas Foundation is a private foundation based in Charlotte, North Carolina. “The foundation invests in local nonprofits that support those in crisis, provide pathways for adults to achieve self-sufficiency, and help children reach their greatest potential.” (Merancas.org)
Atlanta Habitat is grateful for the partnerships that help their work with seniors such as AARP and SageNavigator whose resources (Sage Solutions Program) help with aging in place assessments and solutions for seniors in need. Atlanta Habitat’s plan for 2022 is to serve 75 families (at no cost to them) with their RWK program of which 85% are over the age 60.
RWK is part of Atlanta Habitat’s Neighborhood Revitalization Program. This year Atlanta Habitat has an overall goal of serving 191 families through 30 new home builds, 3 partner builds, 3 home rehabs, 75 Repair with Kindness (RWK – critical home repair) projects, and 80 Brush with Kindness (BWK – light aesthetic home repair) projects. The Neighborhood Revitalization Program also will serve hundreds of families in financial literacy and home buying education, scholarships, and career opportunities. This work is supported by the Merancas Foundation and Atlanta Habitat’s many donors and funding partners.
