Atlanta Habitat recruiting volunteers for a build of a lifetime
December 15, 2017
2nd Annual Global Village Trip to DR begins March 10, 2018
Atlanta Habitat for Humanity is seeking dedicated volunteers to travel to the Dominican Republic to build a home alongside local volunteers and a working family who will live in the home. The nonprofit homebuilder’s second annual Global Village trip is from March 10 to 17, 2018 and is a life-changing opportunity to visit another country and experience the hands-on transformation of building a home.
Twelve volunteers from Atlanta will support the project, which is in a province about three hours from the capital city Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. While there, they will help lay a foundation, install doors and windows, paint and put the final additions onto an approximately 300 square-foot house. The weeklong trip will also include time for cultural experiences.
This second self-sponsored Global Village trip is a project close to Atlanta Habitat President and CEO Lisa Y. Gordon’s heart. “We know the positive impact that owning a quality, affordable home can have on a family in Atlanta. The impact is just as profound in the Dominican Republic.” Gordon participated in Atlanta Habitat’s inaugural Global Village trip last March.
Volunteers are encouraged to raise funds to cover the $1,700 cost of their trip. Volunteer slots are limited and the deadline to register and pay a deposit is December 31, 2017.
