Atlanta Habitat for Humanity and Bank of America Partner to Build and Donate an Atlanta Home as Part of Largest Global Build Since Initiative Launched in 2014

November 8, 2019

Atlanta Habitat for Humanity and Bank of America came together today to dedicate homebuyer Sharonda Green’s newly built home in Atlanta. The home build and dedication event came on the heels of Bank of America’s sixth Global Build week (Saturday, October 5 – Saturday, October 12), which represented a continuation of the bank’s 33-year commitment to Habitat for Humanity International.

Throughout the months of September, October and November, more than 300 bank employees volunteered alongside Habitat to address affordable housing challenges with the construction of this home. This is the twenty-fifth Atlanta Habitat house that Bank of America has sponsored and participated in since the partnership began in 1993. To mark Veterans Day on Monday, November 11, Bank of America also partnered with military veterans from Wounded Warriors to finish the construction.

“Affordable housing is fundamental for individuals and families to achieve economic mobility,” said Wendy Stewart, Atlanta market president for Bank of America. “Partnering with Habitat and engaging our volunteers is one way we can help build a more sustainable Atlanta community as part of our approach to responsible growth.”

The house, located in Orchard Knob, will give Green and her daughter a safe and comfortable place to call home. One of the things Green is most excited about is her daughter having a secure place to play.

“The partnership between Bank of America and Atlanta Habitat has been invaluable in advancing our mission to transform neighborhoods and serve more new families each year,” said Lisa Y. Gordon, president and CEO of Atlanta Habitat. “Not only have they built houses alongside our new homebuyers and provided down payment assistance to them, Bank of America is committed to supporting the Atlanta community, and Atlanta Habitat, by consistently investing both financial resources and volunteers to homeowner empowerment initiatives.”

Habitat and Bank of America have partnered for more than 30 years, helping homeowners build or improve the places they call home. Each year, #BofAVolunteers give more than 40,000 hours to Habitat in their communities through board service, home build initiatives and financial literacy training for future Habitat homeowners.
