A Statement from Atlanta Habitat CEO Lisa Y. Gordon
May 31, 2020
“It has been devastating to watch the loss of life and destruction of property in our City and communities around the country. I know many people are suffering because of the civil unrest triggered by the tragic killings of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, and so many others. Every day I pray for our society to use its collective wisdom for new solutions and peace.
Atlanta Habitat stands with those who are fighting peacefully for justice and lasting change. Everyone deserves to live in an equitable society. We believe that when people feel invested in their communities, included in the political process, treated fairly with opportunities to thrive; they are a part of what Dr. Martin Luther King called the ‘Beloved Community.’
For 37 years, our organization has helped build that community working alongside diverse people from every walk of life. We believe that everyone deserves a safe home that can serve as a foundation for education, professional achievement and personal growth for themselves and their families. We will continue to be a catalyst for change and create housing that supports our families and communities. We hope that you will join us in being change agents in our community.” – Atlanta Habitat CEO Lisa Y. Gordon
