According to research conducted by Harvard University and the Federal Reserve Board, owning a home is still a pathway to wealth-building. In general, houses tend to appreciate over time and equity in a home acts as a kind of forced savings.
Because the availability of affordable homes is at a critical state, Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliates are launching “Cost of Home,” a five-year national campaign to address our nation’s affordable housing crisis.
Atlanta Habitat homeowners know the value of their investment because they spend 250 hours investing sweat-equity and learning about homeownership. A study of Atlanta Habitat homeowners conducted by Georgia Tech shows that:
- 83 percent are better off financially
- 72 percent experienced improved health
- 33 percent graduate from college
Congratulations homeowners, this month is for you!
