Mother’s Day is a special day celebrated globally to honor and appreciate the contributions of mothers in our lives. It is a day to show gratitude for their endless love, support, and sacrifices. But for some mothers, especially single mothers, the day can be a reminder of the challenges they face in providing stable and affordable housing for their families. Fortunately, Atlanta Habitat for Humanity understands these struggles and has been working to support mothers for the last 40 years.

Over the past five years, Atlanta Habitat has served 707 women homeowners across all programs. Eighty-three percent of all program participants are women, and 80 percent are female heads of households – often single mothers who are the sole breadwinners for their families. These hardworking and resilient mothers are determined to provide their children with a stable home environment, but the high cost of housing in Atlanta often makes it challenging for them to achieve this goal.

Atlanta Habitat provides affordable homeownership opportunities that enable mothers to own homes and provide their families with a stable and secure environment. The homes are energy-efficient and built to last, ensuring these families have a safe and comfortable place to call home for many years to come. Support for new homeowners goes beyond the build – the organization provides financial education and home maintenance to equip them with the skills they need to be successful in homeownership.
