6 Ways to Volunteer with Atlanta Habitat for Humanity

  • Post category:Blog Post

Happy National Volunteer Month! It’s that time of year to inspire others to get involved. Organizations from all over take the time to celebrate the dedicated volunteers serving this meaningful cause to our community.

Volunteering might provoke images of cleaning up pollution, serving food or cleaning up the lunchroom cafeteria, but there are many more ways to volunteer here at Atlanta Habitat for Humanity.

We offer a variety of opportunities, and today, we will discuss a few that you may not be aware of. At Atlanta Habitat, there are several ways you can help out at a build site, at our ReStores, or working directly with our families in the Home Smart program. It’s your choice, and you have plenty of opportunities to find the best fit.

Below are six ways you may not know about that you can help at Atlanta Habitat for Humanity:

  1. Volunteer at the ReStore. Our ReStore is a location where we show off all our fantastic and generous donations from the community through strategic merchandising. We create beautiful displays to sell new and gently used items. You’ll find a variety of ways to help at the ReStore. You could work with people and products on the sales floor or help with product testing and quality control. There is also a need for working with staff with donations that require heavy lifting. 2. Volunteer with a Non-Sponsored Group. This option provides home-building projects on Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Saturdays. These groups will transform communities through neighborhood revitalization, education, innovative development, and partnerships. Our Non-Sponsored Groups represent a big part of Atlanta Habitat. 3. Volunteer as a Skilled Supervisor. This means you will lead a team of volunteers during a build and serve as an ambassador for the brand. It is an integral part of the program of volunteering at Atlanta Habitat for Humanity. Not ready to lead a skill? Volunteer as a General Construction Volunteer – no experience necessary! 4. Volunteer as a Weekend Warehouse Volunteer. This job will help construction sites run smoothly by pre-building house components and preparing materials. This type of volunteering can be done individually or with a group of friends and family. Atlanta Habitat offers enjoyable team-building opportunities and will provide outreach and fellowship opportunities. 5. Want to make a meaningful difference? You and your friends, family, or co-workers can volunteer for an exciting day on a home-building project. At Atlanta Habitat, Sustainability is always top of mind. We use sustainable practices in home design, materials, landscaping, waste management, and construction. It will result in lower utility bills overall for the homeowners, too. Every home we build exceeds specific green building, energy efficiency, and sustainability guidelines.
