Sponsor Helps City Worker Reach the Next Level

Joseph was working alongside his Atlanta Watershed coworkers when he saw a volunteer team doing a neighborhood cleanup. He was intrigued, which led him to seek more information about Atlanta Habitat and how he could become a homeowner. “I was in the right place at the right time!” Joseph says. Before he knew it, he was on his way to becoming a first-time homebuyer.

Coming out to build over eight Saturdays with about 30 volunteers and taking the necessary classes are small prices to pay in exchange for an affordable, zero-interest mortgage, homeownership and happiness. Joseph adds that having employee-volunteers from Kabbage motivated him further to be a part of his community and to help others become homeowners through volunteer work at Atlanta Habitat.

Kabbage is a new house sponsor, and thanks to employees who gave up their “Free Lunch Fridays,” those funds were used to offset the construction costs, thus making homeownership affordable and accessible for Joseph to have a safe, decent place to call home in his new Oakland City neighborhood.

Thoughtful sponsors like Kabbage are what fuel Atlanta Habitat’s mission to empower low-income working families through homeownership and to help neighborhoods thrive.
