Recycle for Good: The Canny Partnership Creating New Homeowners

  • Post category:Blog Post

Did you know every soda, seltzer or canned drink can go toward making the dream of homeownership come true for a Habitat homebuyer? Thanks to a one-of-a-kind partnership, you’re a few sips away from making that dream a reality.

Launched in 2017, the Recycle for Good program is a partnership between Novelis, AMB Sports and Entertainment (AMBSE) and Atlanta Habitat for Humanity that turns aluminum cans and bottles into funds to support home builds. AMBSE, which includes the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta United, Mercedes-Benz Stadium and PGA TOUR Superstore, collect aluminum waste from their Atlanta events. Novelis, the world leader in aluminum recycling, then collects the waste and repurposes the aluminum for future use while donating the proceeds from the metals.

For every three million bottles and cans collected and recycled, one home is built in Atlanta. To date, more than 14.5 million aluminum bottles and cans have been collected and recycled from Mercedes-Benz Stadium and the recently demolished Georgia Dome.

Since the partnership began, AMBSE and Novelis have built three homes: one in 2017, the second in 2019 and the third in 2022. This Earth Month, the partnership is celebrating a tremendous milestone with its fourth home build start on April 29.

Anyone can participate in the program without having to attend events at the stadium – though we highly encourage you to support our Atlanta teams and events – by dropping off their cans at Atlanta Habitat for Humanity headquarters.

Located in the parking lot, recyclers can place their cans into the Recycle for Good can trailer and contribute directly to providing affordable homeownership.

As this unique program continues, we look forward to continuing in our pledge toward sustainability and affordability in our community.
